Elevating your bridal style

Regular readers of our Instagram captions will know that here at Couture Events, we don’t believe in following trends as the net result is that in years to come you risk the styling choice looking dated - we prefer a timeless aesthetic but with carefully chosen, elevated details, making your choices innovative and memorable. Instead of following a trend, think classic aesthetics mixed with a touch of modernity and individuality.

This year Bridal Fashion Week 2023 showcased trends ranging from ballgown silhouettes to ‘high-low’ hemlines, flared sleeves to sheer fabrics, high necklines to asymetrical necklines, masculine style two piece suits to dramatic after party dresses. The mini bow and the floral motif retained their popularity - but I feel we saw a lot of these in 2022.

The elements that caught my eye were the accessories which in my opinion give brides the opportunity to mix and match and create a look which is totally unique to them and reflective of their personalities. Below is a selection of my favourites …

Bridal Capes

Whether you are looking to add a cover up layer for your wedding ceremony or to add some drama to a simple wedding gown - which can later be removed for dancing to create a 2nd look - capes come in both long and short options, chic and sheer or embellished and frothy, to suit your mood. A modern alternative to a veil, adding then removing a cape is a great way to change up your style throughout the day.

Statement Headbands

We are also huge fans of a statement headband, as seen on a number of our 2022 brides. Designers we love include Dolecka Bridal and Merve Bayindir.

Bridal Gloves

Another look which caught our eye an an alternative to statement sleeves are bridal gloves. Whether elbow length satin opera style or embellished fingerless gloves, these are a fabulous way to make your bridal look unforgettable. Check out Monique L’Huillier and Julie Vino for ideas.

Last but not least, an update on a classic - textured veils.

Veils have long been a classic accessory as the final part of your bridal look but if a traditional look is not for you, check out these fresh ways of styling a timeless piece - with the addition of frills, pearls and appliqués.
