2018 Highlights! A year in the life of a wedding planner and party organiser

What an incredible first year it has been for Couture Events!


For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been a professional wedding and party planner for the last 15 years, working for top events agencies, during which time I have organised and produced some incredible parties and weddings, partnering with some of London’s top creative suppliers and having the privilege to work in some of our capital’s most prestigious and historic venues.


However, in 2017 I felt a yearning to craft a new life and a new business, making a conscious decision to live and work in an environment which is authentic and which brings me joy, committing to push myself both creatively and professionally, to continually learn and develop whilst also giving myself the freedom to balance my work and family commitments as I need to, and to fulfil both my roles equally and to the best of my ability - and in January 2018, Couture Events Ltd was born.


There’s a famous quote along the lines of “don’t look back, you aren’t going that way” … but I believe that small businesses should celebrate their achievements and successes so here are a few of my highlights from 2018 …


Couture Events' inaugural year got off to a cracking start with a lot of support and encouragement from within the industry and I was soon working on a number of projects in various locations ranging from prestigious London venues such as Guildhall, Westminster Abbey and Skygarden, to some further afield including Seville and Stockholm!


My two biggest highlights of the summer were firstly, a fantastic private party in Claridge’s and secondly, a beautiful wedding at the Savoy. For the Claridge’s party, it was the most fantastic brief and I relished the opportunity to put together a top team of ‘London’s finest’ to design and deliver an outstanding party for a very special private client. We completely transformed the Ballroom Entrance, the Foyer area and the Ballroom and designed an event which surprised, entertained and delighted guests in equal measure. For reasons of discretion I cannot say any more except that I enjoyed every moment of this incredible project and that working with Claridge’s was also was an absolute joy – the team there could not have been more helpful or accommodating and I look forward to my next opportunity to work there.



Then from one 5* London hotel to another – one of my wedding couples were due to hold their wedding weekend across two venues in August – The Ritz London and the beautiful Mandarin Oriental. However, they were one of an unfortunate group of couples whose dream plans were thrown into disarray by the awful fire in June which closed the hotel indefinitely (at that time – happily it is now reopen!) and which therefore meant finding a new venue for their wedding with 8 weeks notice! My couple were incredibly stoic about it and their attitude was one of prioritising the act of marriage itself and celebrating it, rather than losing sleep over the ‘second choice’ venue where this would now take place. After much ringing around and hurried site visits, then needing to re-organise all the elements of the wedding to fit the new locations, it was the most wonderful occasion and after an incredibly moving ceremony in at The Savoy, the couple and their guests then partied the night away aboard the Silver Sturgeon before being whisked away at midnight by The Ritz’ own chauffeured Rolls Royce.



The second half of the year saw me managing events in more London hotels, including an incredible Bat Mitzvah in the Ham Yard Hotel in Soho and a couple of events at the Westminster Park Plaza. The highlight of the autumn though had to be the most incredibly beautiful day I spent with my hand picked creative team at the spectacularly ‘quintessentially English’ country luxe location which is Cliveden House, working on an editorial shoot I’d planned organised and styled with my colleague Mari Chase of Chase Make Up and Hair. I was over the moon that the shoot was featured in Wed Luxe and will also be in the March 2019 issue of You and Your Wedding. Not bad for my first ever shoot!



I couldn’t close off my highlights of 2018 without special mention to my family and the wonderful holiday we had at the end of the summer – sun, sea and (wind)surf – 7 days of pure bliss. Whilst I have absolutely loved every moment of my work this year and have put every ounce of my energy and passion into each and every client, as a business owner and creative director, I have learned how important it is to also take care of yourself and make time for relaxation and reflection in order to then be the best professional you can be.



With all that behind me, I cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store for me – it’s already shaping up to be another exciting and rewarding year!
