Luxury Exclusive Hire Country Estate Destination Wedding Venue in England
I recently had the pleasure of introducing one of our couples the incredible Cowdray House and they were so blown away by everything that it offers, as the perfect luxury country estate destination wedding venue, that I thought it merited a blog post of its own.
Cowdray House is an incredibly luxurious, privately owned, exclusive use country house wedding venue, located in beautiful West Sussex, just an hour from London.
The manor house is the jewel in the crown of the Cowdray Estate, a working farm of 16,500 acres, and was the former family home of Lord and Lady Cowdray, who now live locally but whose lineage and own personal styling is still felt very profoundly in the house, giving it a wonderfully intimate and cosy feeling, despite its grandeur.
The house can be hired exclusively by couples from Friday through to Sunday and guests are encouraged to fully immerse themselves in everything that Cowdray has to offer, and to make full use of the extensive facilities.
The house and grounds offer a number of solutions for various sizes of weddings – ceremonies can be conducted either outside on the lawn or inside the house, in the historic Buck Hall, the heart of the house and one of the noblest rooms in England, complete with historic wood panelling, huge open fireplace, vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows and even a minstrels’ gallery. Drinks receptions can take place either on the lawns or inside the luxuriously appointed reception rooms prior to returning to Buck Hall for dinner. For larger weddings, there is plenty of open space on the lawns for the installation of a fabulously styled marquee, with the house as a fabulous backdrop. So many opportunities for incredible wedding photography - and it's all exclusively yours!

In terms of accommodation, the house has 22 fabulous and uniquely styled bedrooms, with incredible views over the expansive lawns and glorious bathrooms complete with Cowdray embroidered towels, robes and slippers.
If you’re looking for the perfect luxury country house destination for your wedding, just let your mind wander as I paint you this picture of how your weekend could roll out ….
On arrival on Friday afternoon, guests are welcomed to the house and are shown to their beautiful bedrooms where they can unpack and take in the surroundings. After the rehearsal for the wedding ceremony, afternoon tea and drinks are served on the lawn – guests can then either choose to partake in some country pursuits with experts from Cowdray, go and play a round of golf or perhaps remain at the house to relax – by exploring the private gardens (all 110 acres of them!), enjoying a game of croquet, having a knock about on the tennis court, a dip in the outdoor pool or simply some quiet time in the Library; if the weather is not warm enough to enjoy the outdoor pool, the indoor pool is perfect for unwinding and therapists can be brought in to offer spa treatments.
As the sun goes down, your guests are invited for cocktails in the main house followed by a delicious dinner, to toast the couple’s future happiness; for those with energy to burn after dinner, there is a fabulous private bowling alley on the lower ground floor or guests can simply retire to the Morning Room and Drawing Room for coffee and liqueurs.
As the big day dawns, for the energetic amongst your guests, what better way to start the day than morning run around the grounds, a game of tennis or a refreshing dip in one of the pools?
As suppliers start to arrive and set up, the bride and her attendants gather in the Diamond Room (formerly Lady Cowdray’s own bedroom) with their hair and make up team. Champagne and croissants are served on the balcony overlooking the magnificent lawns – making a perfect for pre ceremony photography shot.
After the wedding, when it’s time to say goodbye to Cowdray, should the happy couple wish to depart on honeymoon in style, the house even does this in style - with its very own helipad.
In my opinion, couples looking for the perfect destination country estate wedding location, Cowdray House would be hard to beat!
