BIRDSALL HOUSE: A Private Yorkshire Estate for Refined, Weekend-Long Celebrations

Back in October 2025, I had the pleasure of being invited to spend an evening and overnight stay at the remarkable Birdsall House, a visit designed to understand the estate as our couples would experience it.

Although Yorkshire sits further north than many of our transatlantic clients typically request, any reservations vanished the moment I arrived. The house, its history, its setting and, most notably, the warmth of the family and their team made an immediate and lasting impression.

I would have absolutely no hesitation recommending this venue to our transatlantic couples seeking a destination wedding that feels deeply English yet entirely personal. Birdsall House offers a location for gathering, celebrating and making memories whilst also being a place of retreat, connection and understated grandeur.

After a refreshing cup of tea on arrival and introductions to the Birdsall House team, we enjoyed a full tour of the house and insights into some of its incredible treasures, such as the unbroken line of family portraits dating from 1573 to the present day. Highlights include works by artists such as Sir Joshua Reynolds and Pompeo Batoni, and furniture by Thomas Chippendale.

We then explored the grounds, viewing the romantic chapel ruins, the ancient village church and the generous, stylish and luxurious guest accommodation nearby.

After some time to relax and refresh, we regrouped for Champagne in one of the State Apartments before moving through to a formal 3 course dinner in the dining room, after which we adjourned downstairs to the secret ‘speakeasy’ style cellar bar for late night cocktails and moody jazz.

With grateful thanks to our host Lady Cara Willoughby and her team for the most incredible stay, as well as the collaborative team who supported the event:
